You're planning a formal gathering, and it will be outside ? Awesome! There is something about outdoor events that feel more invigorating and rejuvenating than the indoor varieties. Insightful sources, such as Psychology Today, tell us that enjoying the outdoors with family and friends causes the brain to decrease feelings of stress and anxiety ? a chemical-triggering process that is mentally and physically felt.
During the event-planning process, however, stress and anxiety can rear their heads since there is so much to keep in order before the big day. The logistics can feel daunting, and some details could be overlooked especially if this is the party planner's 'first rodeo'.
Here are three details, out of many, to keep in mind:
Weather Details
You might be planning a swanky garden wedding or wedding reception ? a spring/summer fashion show in the park ? a country-club brunch at a gorgeous golf course ? or, perhaps, an elegant poolside cocktail party ? but wait a minute, what if it rains?
Staying ahead of the weather is a detail that any outdoor-event planner must always keep at the forefront. Though we can't change the weather, we can work around it. It is very prudent to be proactive and remain ever-aware of what the weather might throw your way on the day of your event. Thankfully, weather apps can give accurate 10-day forecasts of temperatures and precipitation. Consider the possibility of renting event tents to combat any drizzle, rain, or wind. City-Permit Details
If your event will take place on city-owned property such as a park, be sure to call the city to apply for a permit. In fact, in some cases, outdoor events held on private property would need permits, too! If your event will serve alcohol, rules and regulations can vary regarding this detail. Even music ? live and recorded ? would need to meet certain regulations.
In Fort Worth, if your outdoor event will use port-a-potties and would qualify as a permit-necessary gathering, the event organizer would need to apply with the City to be approved for placement on the City's Event Calendar. In Dallas, any temporary outdoor event where port-a-potties will be used and where 100 or more attendees are expected ? whether held on public or private property ? a permit must be obtained.
