Questions about Portable Bathroom Rental

Questions You Want Answered Regarding Portable Bathroom Rentals

Most people don't think much about portable bathrooms ? after all, why would they?  We all have one or more bathrooms in our homes, and public bathrooms are readily available regardless of how far away from home we might roam.  When one wishes to rent a portable bathroom, however, curiosity concerning these, truly, unsung heroes begins to emerge.  People begin to wonder about a few things concerning portable bathrooms that, perhaps, they never thought of before ? such as:

1:  How Do Portable Bathrooms Manage Waste?

Unlike indoor bathrooms, portable restrooms utilize a completely different system to manage waste.  Since portable bathrooms are completely self-contained, the waste is safely held in a holding tank until it can be, properly, eliminated.

Deodorizing chemicals play a big role in making sure the bacteria from the waste does not become an odor issue or a health concern.  The deodorizing chemicals don't just eliminate and neutralize odors, they sanitize the waste.  The on-board plumbing is out of sight, and the waste tanks are tightly sealed to keep the interiors optimally fresh-smelling.

Technology has, fundamentally, changed the way the industrialized regions of the world operate in every, possible, way.  Most people don't realize that technology has impacted the portable bathroom industry, as well.  Over the years, the evolution of portable bathrooms has been nothing short of astounding.  What we think of as 'true' portable bathrooms ? or porta-potties ? came on the scene during the 1940s when they were used by Long Beach, California shipyard workers.  At that time, the hut-like cubicles, void of any amenities, made bathroom visits quite unpleasant.  Unfortunately, some people, today, carry the notion that portable bathrooms are still that crude and uninviting.  That, fortunately, is not the case!

Far-improved methods of managing portable-bathroom waste have been utilized.  Non-formaldehyde-based deodorizers containing bio-cides don't just neutralize smells but keep bacteria from, exponentially, multiplying.  When the portable bathroom's holding tank must be emptied, sanitation  trucks arrive to transfer the waste from the portable bathroom's waste bin to the truck's huge storage tanks.  Large hoses are connected to output holes and vacuum technology makes waste removal efficient, easy, and mess-free.  Once the waste bins of the portable bathrooms are emptied, the bins are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and restocked with a solution that, yet again, will do its job to kill the bacteria and keep the portable bathroom's interior fresh smelling.  The waste solution is taken to a local freshwater treatment plant where strict regulations are followed to ensure the health and safety of the environment.

The epitome of portable bathroom evolution, however, would be luxury portable restroom trailers.  These beauties are chocked full of surprising amenities such as beautiful cabinetry, AC and heat, flushing toilets, and much more ? all, intended to make a portable bathroom visit feel just like home!

2:  Can Portable Bathrooms Be Positioned Anywhere?

The quick answer to that question is, 'no'.  Portable bathrooms, however, can be placed in virtually any location as long as the surface is dry, sturdy, and level and as long at the portable units do not obstruct traffic ways that firetrucks, police cars, and ambulances would need, during an emergency.  Keep in mind that torrential rains could, easily, compromise the stability of a portable bathroom if it were placed on the ground that could become a soft, muddy mess.

Depending on the design of a portable bathroom ? such as luxury restroom trailers, for example ? a standard household outlet may be needed to operate AC or heat.  For special events held in out-of-the-way locations (such as an outdoor wedding being held in a rustic barn), portable generators can provide electricity for lights and other electricity-dependent systems.  Some portable bathroom designs with flushing toilets and faucets with running water may have to be hooked up to the closest water spigot if there is no stored-water system, on board.

Being centrally-located is important, too.  This is especially true with much larger events such as carnivals, regional BBQ contests, etc.  Portable bathrooms should be placed near high foot-traffic routes and lounging areas to offer enhanced convenience and accessibility.

Additionally, if portable restrooms are used for more than one day, they would need to be maintained which means sanitation/maintenance trucks would need sufficient access room to enable servicing.

3:  Are Special Hook-ups Required for Portable Bathrooms?

Though this topic was just touched upon, standard port-a-potties do not require any type of special hook-ups.  It is the amenity-filled luxurious restroom trailers that could require outside sources for water and electricity.  A 110-outlet and a standard garden-hose faucet are all that would be required.  And, as mentioned, restroom trailers can be operated off a generator if they are farther than 50 feet from an electrical outlet.

4:  How Do I Determine the Number of Units Needed?

The most obvious factor when determining the number of portable restrooms your event would require would be the number of expected attendees.  A good rule-of-thumb is to estimate two toilets for an 8-hour event with less than 50 people.

One should, also, take into account if more women will be in attendance than men.  Studies indicate ? probably to no one's surprise ? that women, frequently, take up twice as much time in a restroom, over men.  That, of course, can generate longer wait times if too-few portable bathrooms are available.  You, also, might want to figure in an extra unit if a large group of guests will remain at the event for more than 3 hours.

If alcohol will be served, one or more units can reduce or eliminate long wait lines.  We, all, know that alcohol consumption increases restroom usage.  Medical Daily tells us that alcohol, alone, will generate 40% more restroom visits.
