Paruresis ? Fear of Using Port-a-Potties
Our Portable Restrooms Might Change Your View
It's a word most people are unfamiliar with ? Paruresis. It involves a fear of using any type of public toilet facility. The fear is multi-faceted, and only a moderate amount of research has been conducted on this topic. It is considered a phobia in the world of psychology and it revolves, generally speaking, around personal fears of 1) embarrassment during toilet activity 2) being viewed negatively by others while using a restroom 3) not reaching a toilet in time 4) being in close proximity to others who are using a toilet 5) germ concerns and 6) one's bodily functions being heard in a public-restroom setting.
Those who suffer from Paruresis avoid social situations where a public toilet would be used. Though, presumably, deep-rooted in its cause, we at Chem Cans would like to offer some insight on our portable restrooms that might help ease the fear and anxiety that surrounds the condition of Paruresis, as it might pertain to portable restrooms, per se.
We will address three of the many anxieties that surround Paruresis:
Embarrassment During Toilet Activity
Did you know that Chem Cans offers portable restrooms that allow single users the utmost privacy? Whether one might use our basic port-a-potties or our luxury restroom trailers that accommodate two or three users, simultaneously, privacy is always available for every user. Chem Cans has various models where no one, except the user, enters the portable restroom. Seclusion is enjoyed at all times.
At Chem Cans, we offer various luxury restroom trailers where one entrance is offered for men and a different entrance is offered for women. The amenities include vanities with sinks and running water for just-like-home hand-washing as well as flushing commodes that keep sanitation optimized and any odors minimized.
Since our port-a-potties and some of our luxury restroom trailers are intended for one person, only, behind each outside entrance door, embarrassment during toilet activity need not exist. Any 'toilet activity' is between the user and the room, itself. As they say, what happens in the bathroom, stays in the bathroom!
Fear of Close Proximity to Others
Part of the fear associated with Paruresis deals with being 'next to' someone else who is using a toilet, at the same time. This, of course, is what mall bathrooms, hospitals, and business offices offer bathroom users ? lined up stalls where toilet users are less than 3 feet away from one another. Chem Cans, however, offers portable restrooms where single users enjoy solitude and privacy with no one else in the room. Though Chem Cans has luxury restroom trailers that will accommodate up to 10 users, simultaneously, it is our basic port-a-potties and some of our smaller luxury restroom trailers that offer single-user seclusion. No one is close to anyone, and absolute privacy is enjoyed.
Chem Cans has several luxury restroom trailers that offer 100% privacy, at all times:
VIP 2 ? spacious, separate restrooms offer usage for two people but have private entrances for one person, at a time.
Luxury 2 ? a men's entrance and a women's entrance mean two guests can use the Luxury 2 at the same time, yet separate rooms are conducive to the utmost privacy.
Luxury 3 ? three separate entrances allow for multi-use, at any time, but each room invites only a single-user for optimized peace-of-mind
Concerns About Germs
Did you know that portable toilets can harbor far-fewer germs than many everyday items such as computer keyboards, handrails, cell phones, door handles, kitchen sponges, and money? It's true. In fact, the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) and Food & Water Watch substantiate the fact that many items we touch, every day, carry more germs and bacteria than your common port-a-potty.
A portable restroom will be only as clean as the maintenance schedule dictates. At Chem Cans, we suggest that portable restrooms used for more than one day be cleaned and sanitized every day to ensure the most germ-free environment, possible. For multi-day events, Chem Cans' clean-team does an excellent job of making sure our portable restroom rentals are spotless, sanitized, and ready for the next day's festivities.
