Construction Porta Potty Placement

Construction Porta-Potty's Correct Placement is Vital

Welcome to ChemCan!  If you are in the construction business, you are well aware of the million-and-one details that must align with one another to ensure all the logistics unfold, seamlessly.  One part of that planning includes having construction-site porta-potties available for your crew.

At ChemCan, we offer a large inventory of porta-potties for construction use.  We provide more than, just, convenience for you and your workers; we provide comfort, sanitation, and the ability to meet OSHA guidelines.  Though OSHA guidelines do not, specifically, address the placement of construction porta-potties, there are some critical things to be aware of concerning porta-potty placement at any type of construction site.

Construction porta-potties need to be positioned in locations that are:

? Accessible

The delivery, cleaning, and retrieval of construction port-potties must be done in a safe, efficient manner.  Our drivers will need a clear path so our delivery truck can access the porta-potty location(s) to position the units, maintain them, and remove them when needed.

As far as janitorial services are concerned, we recommend the sanitizing and the restocking of supplies to occur at least once, preferably twice, a week.  It is important to allow sanitation trucks at least 20 feet of clear space so they can get close enough to your construction porta-potties to easily get hooked up and pump the waste from the units.

? Dependable

Any areas used for your construction-site porta-potties must be level, solid, and dry.  The last thing you need is for one or more porta-potties to tip over due to ground instability, especially during a high wind.  Wind-related damage can be avoided or minimized if porta-potties are positioned against a fence, wall or sturdy structure.  Porta-potties can, also, be tethered to a solid object or staked to the ground as an added measure of protection from wind gusts.

Heavy rains are nothing new to the Lone Star State.  Texas has, certainly, experienced its share.  During May of 2019, more than 8 inches of rain fell in the DFW area, according to the National Weather Service.  Too much rain will, predictably, cause porta-potties to sink or topple over if placed on grassy or dirt areas that offer little or no drainage.  If units sink too deeply, retrieving the units can become a real challenge and added costs can be incurred.  Ideally, construction-site porta-potties should be placed on a concrete slab or another equally-sturdy surface

? Protected

Thieves can wreak havoc at construction sites ? to the tune of $300 million to $1 billion in lost revenue each year in the US!  The US Bureau of Labor Statistics shares some unsettling insight regarding Texas' construction sites:  out of the top-10 states ranked for the most construction equipment theft, Texas ranks #2 behind California.

Those who think nothing of stealing construction equipment, also, think nothing of destroying construction-site porta-potties for the sheer 'fun' of it.  Tipping them over, applying graffiti, and other acts of thoughtlessness are not uncommon.  For this reason, construction porta-potties should be in an area that would discourage thieves or vandals from entering.  This can be accomplished through the use of temporary fencing or heavy barricades.  Additionally, each restroom door should be padlocked during overnight hours.
